JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting that happened at a gas station on Center Point Parkway late Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021.
At around 10 p.m., deputies were called to the scene in the 1100 block of Center Point Parkway, at the A&A Convenience Store. The store is in unincorporated Jefferson County, although surrounding properties are in the city limits of Center Point.
Deputies found a 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was still breathing according to Sgt. Joni Money, with the sheriff’s office.
“Deputies took measures to save the victim’s life until he could be transported to UAB Hospital,” Money said.
The victim was later pronounced dead at UAB.
Money said investigators have determined the shooting was the result of a fight between the victim and the gunman.
“According to witnesses, the victim and a black male suspect argued inside the store,” Money said. “The suspect pulled a handgun and pointed it at the victim. The two began to fight. During the fight, the suspect fired a shot at the victim, hitting him.”
Deputies believe the gunman fled the scene in a white van. Further information has not yet been released by deputies.
If anyone has information, they are asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450.
