A few Tribune-area softball teams were in play Thursday, netting an 0-4 evening on the diamond.
See game recaps below.
St. Clair County 5, Leeds 1
The Green Wave surrendered a pair in the top of the first and never could catch back up on Thursday night in a 5-1 loss to St. Clair County.
Center fielder Sophie Sick drove in shortstop Marley Miller in the fifth inning for Leeds lone run of the evening, setting the final count at 5-1. The Green Wave (1-5) finished with four total hits to St. Clair’s nine.
John Carroll 8, Moody 3
An early deficit was too much to overcome for the Moody softball team on Thursday night in an 8-3 loss at John Carroll.
The Cavaliers posted five runs in the first after Abi Allarde cleared the bases with a grand slam. That 5-0 deficit held util the top of the fifth when Moody scored twice on a passed ball and an error.
The Blue Devils later cut the deficit to 5-3 after Skylar Black scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Brianna Downey in the sixth. That is, however, as close as it would get as John Carroll answered with a 3-spot in the home-half, setting the final score at 8-3.
Cavaliers’ righty Macey Ogle tossed seven innings of one-hit ball, striking out 15 batters to earn the win. Jana Morrow claimed the one Moody hit and scored one of her team’s three runs on Thursday.
Helena 4, Springville 3
Springville lost its second game of the season on Thursday night at Helena, falling 4-3 after a pair of ninth-inning errors.
The game went to extras tied at 2-2 after Tigers’ leadoff McKenzie Brown evened things up with a solo shot in the fifth. But offense was hard to find against Helena pitcher Camryn Bailey, who allowed just four hits and two walks in a complete nine innings. She struck out 13 batters while forcing nine flyouts and five groundouts in the win.
Karli Davidson delivered two hits for the Tigers (4-2).
Mortimer Jordan 15, Clay-Chalkville 0
Class 6A, Area 12 play opened up on Thursday night with Mortimer Jordan cruising past Clay-Chalkville 15-0.
