A trio of local softball teams were in action on Tuesday night in non-area play.
See game recaps below.
Hewitt-Trussville 7, Hoover 1
Coming off a first-place finish in the Hewitt Round Robin last weekend, the Huskies started this week with a 7-1 home win over Hoover. Hewitt-Trussville (13-1) put 11 hits on the visitors thanks in part to multi-hit efforts from Anyce Harvey (four with one RBI), Kenleigh Cahalan (two with three RBIs) and Hannah Dorsett (two). Cahalan doubled and homered for the Huskies.
Sarah Hindman got the start and tossed seven innings of one-hit, one-run ball to earn the win. She forced 10 groundouts, eight flyouts, struck out two batters and pinned nine Bucs on base.
This represents Hewitt’s second victory over Hoover following an 8-5 final last Saturday in tournament play.
Mortimer Jordan 9, Springville 8
These two needed eight innings to settle things on Tuesday night in Kimberly. The back-and-forth affair went final at 9-8 in the bottom of the eighth when Mortimer Jordan’s Mikayla McCain flew into an outfield error that scored the winning run.
Despite a strong offensive outing, Springville slips to 8-5 on the year. The Tigers matched MJ with 10 hits, including six extra-base hits, but ultimately paid for a pair of defensive errors on the road.
Bellah Bullington did exceptional work for Springville with five RBIs to go with a grand slam. Makalyn Kyser doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs, while Tatum Bartlett and Abbie Bowling both finished with two hits for the Tigers.
Springville opened things up with a four-run first and later posted three more in the sixth. The game went into extras tied at 8.
For Mortimer Jordan, Gerri Luttrell provided four hits and five RBIs to go with three hits and two RBIs from Brooke Nash.
Leeds 12, Munford 9
Leeds pummeled Munford with 16 hits and rolled on to a 12-9 road win on Tuesday. For the Green Wave (2-5), Sophie Sisk claimed three hits and a pair of RBIs, Kinlee Gilley posted two hits and three RBIs, and Sophie Gromko connected with two hits and as many RBIs.
That trio occupies Leeds’ first three lineup positions. The visitors poured in five runs in the first and later went to the fourth with an 8-0 cushion.
