BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham Police said the shooting death of a man at a car wash on Feb. 25, 2021, was ruled justifiable.
Detraio Deshawn Whorton, 27, was shot just after 5 p.m., in the 8600 block of First Avenue North. Police said Whorton was shot in the neck after exiting his vehicle and engaging in an altercation with another person.
“Whorton returned to his vehicle and collapsed in the driver seat,” police said in a press release. “The investigation indicates Whorton was an acquaintance of the suspect.”
No one else was hurt.
Investigators presented evidence to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. The DA ruled the actions of the shooter were justified. No other details were given.
