BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office released information about several deadly crashes on Birmingham-area interstates.
On Friday, March 12, 2021, a Thorsby man was killed after a crash on Interstate 65 North. The crash happened around 6:20 a.m. near mile-marker 257, at Green Springs Avenue South, in Birmingham. Juan Jose Madina Torres, 46, was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead three hours later. The Birmingham Police Department is investigating.
An Adamsville man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday, March 13, 2021, on Interstate 59 South. James Edward Henderson, 74, was pronounced dead on the scene near mile-marker 115, at the Allison Bonnett Memorial Drive exit. The crash happened at 6:38 p.m.
“For an unknown reason, the decedent lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway onto an adjacent interstate entrance ramp, and crashed into the wood line just off the interstate,” Coroner Bill Yates said.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating.
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating after Ashleigh Brooke Meek, 33, was struck and killed on Interstate 65 North, near Sixth Avenue North. A motorist called police after finding the woman on the side of the road.
