CULLMAN COUNTY — A West Point High School student has died following a car crash Tuesday afternoon.
The single-vehicle accident took place in 6500 block of County Road 940 in Cullman, claiming the life of 16-year-old Christopher Owens. The sophomore was the son of West Point High teacher Becky Drummond.
“We are all saddened by the loss of Chiris,” said West Point Principal Heith Yearwood. “Not only did we lose a student, but with Chris being the son of one of our teachers, this is especially hard for our faculty, staff, and community. Our prayers are with the family at this time.”
“Our hearts are broken this morning,” said Cullman County School Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette. “This young man was loved by everyone, and his family has deep roots in our school system and extended community. Please lift his family, friends, and community up in prayers as we support them during their loss.”
The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation.
