ARGO – Argo police have made three arrests in Bessemer following a rash of car break-ins and robberies on Monday morning.
Police Chief James Downing says the arrests were made on Monday night in connection to a stolen Volkswagen and stolen gun from Argo. The pending charges include receiving stolen property in Jefferson County and St. Clair County.
The suspects have not yet been identified.
FROM MONDAY:
Several car break-ins and two stolen cars were reported in Argo early Monday, March 29, 2021.
Argo Police Chief James Downing says the two stolen vehicles have since been recovered. One was found in Brighton while the other was recovered in Bessemer. Neither of the vehicles were occupied at the time of recovery.
Downing says at least eight additional vehicles were broken into Monday, including six in the Summit Ridge subdivision, one in the Insbrook subdivision and another down Timber Ridge Drive. Police have reported two firearms stolen.
Authorities say the break-ins occurred between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Downing has reason to believe the suspects were dropped off near the subdivisions and left to go house to house searching for unlocked cars while the getaway vehicle waited in a different location.
Downing urges residents to keep their cars locked, especially during the overnight hours.
Argo Police are requesting anyone with surveillance footage of the suspects to contact the department at 205-467-3333.
