JEFFERSON COUNTY – Detectives with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shooting that took place on Tuesday.
Police say the shooting appears to be the result of a domestic disturbance. According to a release from the sheriff’s office, family members are reporting that the shooting, which occurred in the 700 block of Fields Lane in west Jefferson County, was a case of self defense.
Deputies were dispatched to the location at approximately 11:34 a.m. on Tuesday to investigate a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, deputies discovered one person who had been struck by gunfire.
That person was transported to UAB Hospital by helicopter. The victim’s current medical condition is not known.
Detectives are continuing their investigation and are currently interviewing those involved.
