BRIDGEPORT, Ala. (AP) — A former Alabama police officer was arrested on child pornography charges, authorities said.
Former Bridgeport Police Officer Geoffrey Gile Booth, 48, turned himself in on Thursday to face two counts of possessing pornography involving a person under 17 years old, news outlets reported.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen said an investigation into Booth began on March 9, when deputies responded to a call involving him and his wife. The call led to a complaint accusing Booth of owning inappropriate images. Deputies said they examined Booth’s phone and computers and found the images of someone under 17.
Harnen said he believes Booth had already resigned as a Bridgeport officer before deputies were called. Jackson County jail records show he was released within hours Thursday on a bond of $5,000. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney to comment on his behalf.
