BIRMINGHAM — The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in Birmingham.
The incident happened on Sunday, April 4, 2021, around 10:50 p.m. An officer was responding to a domestic disturbance inside a vehicle that was traveling in North Birmingham.
Officers located the vehicle in the 300 block of 9th Avenue West and tried to conduct a traffic stop. After refusing to stop, the driver crashed into a fence in the 200 block of 9th Avenue West.
Police said the driver exited the vehicle and confronted officers with a firearm. The officers shot the man and Birmingham Fire and Rescue took him to UAB Hospital for treatment, where he died.
The Jefferson County Coroner identified the man as 28-year-old Desmon Montez Ray, of Birmingham.
A handgun was recovered from the scene.
