TRUSSVILLE —A Birmingham man was arrested in Trussville after attempting to pass fake cash at Kohl’s, according to police.
Dedrick Deon Taylor, 29, of Birmingham, was arrested on March 30, at the store on Chalkville Mountain Road. He is now facing several charges including three counts of possession of a forged instrument first-degree, theft of property third-degree and theft of property fourth-degree.
Investigators said Taylor bought items with counterfeit $20 bills. When he tried to return the items, he was arrested.
According to a police report, Taylor gave Kohl’s over $1,000 dollars in counterfeit bills during at least two shopping sprees in March.
Upon his arrest, police discovered Taylor had multiple warrants, including a felony warrant with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
It is believed the suspect may have passed fake cash to other locations in Birmingham as well.
Taylor is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $130,300. Other charges he is facing in other jurisdictions include robbery first-degree (business), possession of a controlled substance – synthetic narcotic, using false identity to avoid arrest/hindering prosecution and other charges connected to counterfeit currency.
Taylor is considered innocent of all charges unless proven guilty.
