Fine Pools and Spas is the ultimate pool and spa headquarters offering a wide range of services and supplies designed to meet the needs of the greater Birmingham area with locations in Bessemer and Moody.
Fine Pools and Spas was founded in 1987 by Teresa and Mike Fine. With its original location on Moody Parkway, Teresa was the backbone of the business running the store alone for twelve years, while Mike remained in the foodservice industry. In 1999, Mike joined her side opening another location in Bessemer, along with their daughter Courtney who now manages the store. Both locations service a 35-40 mile radius.
“How we got into the pool market was purely accidental,” said Mike. “We had just had a pool installed and ran into a lot of issues. A friend of mine connected me to a pool distributor and we apparently found a niche in the Birmingham market. We have seen pool trucks come and go as well as stores open and close. We are just blessed to have been open for business 34 years.”
Fine Pools and Spas is a full-service pool store specializing in sales and service in the areas of pool services, pool cleaning and maintenance, hot tubs and service, above ground pool installation and service, and offers free water testing. The store is an authorized service center for numerous pool manufacturers using American-made pools.
Mike shares how last year’s sales skyrocketed due to customers’ splashed out coronavirus cocoons. People who were in lockdown, hot and desperate for a pool, caused the pools to be on a shortage which left manufacturers and distributors of swimming pools and hot tubs scrambling to meet a wave of demand as consumers were stuck at home, escaping the coronavirus pandemic.
“We’ve been in this industry for 34 years and have never seen anything like this,” said Mike. “Our service industry did not suffer. Now is the time to purchase above-ground pools. They are now limited and once they sell there will not be any more available this year.”
Fine Pools and Spas share need-to-know information regarding COVID-19 and Pools & Hot Tubs
According to the CDC, COVID-19 cannot survive in properly treated pool and hot tub water. In addition, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that controlling water quality is necessary to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases.
During this crisis, it is important that pools and spas be properly maintained because:
- The maintenance of properly sanitized swimming pools and other artificial bodies of water is necessary to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases and help maintain community health;
- Without proper pool maintenance (which includes circulation and treatment of water) various germs which are present in feces – like e. Colli – can grow. It can also create a breeding ground for mosquitoes, other pests, and the diseases they may carry. This presents a risk not only to bathers but to the entire community-at-large.
- Additionally, it is critically important that active pool and spa projects be completed. Unfinished projects pose significant public safety risks as potential issues such as cave-ins and pool popping, as well as the dangers posed by an active construction site. And, the impact of long-term exposure to the elements may result in the community health issues noted above.
- As children and families across the country are being asked to reduce outside contact or even shelter at home, and gyms and other public facilities are closing, the backyard pool, spa or hot tub provides a fun way for families to focus on their health and well-being. These pools and hot tubs should be properly maintained by a service professional to ensure proper sanitation measures are taking place.
