UPDATE: Birmingham police have identified the victim as 48-year-old Jermaine Demarico Johnson, of Birmingham.
EARLIER:
BIRMINGHAM — One man is dead following what police believe was a domestic-related shooting in Birmingham on Sunday evening.
According to a release from the Birmingham Police Department, East Precinct officers were dispatched to 3039 Chase Lane shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed a male victim lying unresponsive in the living room of the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel later pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Police say his identity will be released upon notification to the next of kin.
BPD says the preliminary investigation suggests that a verbal argument took place prior to the victim being shot. The suspect remained on the scene and was transported to the Birmingham Police Headquarters for questioning.
