TRUSSVILLE — The Hewitt-Trussville girls soccer team couldn’t find the net on Tuesday afternoon in a must-win home match against Spain Park.
The Huskies surrendered the game-winning goal with 9:03 remaining in the second half, as Jaguar freshman Tatum Ahlemeyer punched one through for the only goal of the evening. The 1-0 win sends Spain Park into the Class 7A state playoffs, where the Jags will face Oak Mountain in the first round next week.
In terms of the postseason, Tuesday’s Area 6 loss leaves Hewitt-Trussville on the outside looking in.
The Huskies had their opportunities, but couldn’t quite sneak one through on Spain Park keeper Vivian Gray, despite several shots on goal. One of them came at the 11-minute mark of the second half, when Jocelyn Davis was rejected on a penalty kick.
Gray’s save preserved a scoreless tie and gave her offense a shot in the arm, with Ahlemeyer’s goal coming less than two minutes later.
