FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Fire Department is being credited for catching a suspected arsonist in the act.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, firefighters were returning from an earlier fire when they spotted another fire in the 500 block of Court B. They stopped to extinguish the fire that had started inside an enclosed porch of a home.
Firefighters spotted a man on the porch and the man fled the scene. Firefighters contacted the sheriff’s office and deputies were able to catch the man.
This is an example of different departments working together to keep Jefferson County safe.,” said Sgt. Joni Money, with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. “The firefighters went above and beyond to apprehend the subject responsible for this fire and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is thankful for their assistance in solving this crime. Continued cooperation between our public services, as well as with the community will help to not only solve crimes but to prevent them from ever happening.”
Ali is considered innocent until proven guilty.
