BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham police are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was shot in a parking lot off 46th Street North on Wednesday night.
According to a release from the Birmingham Police Department, the preliminary investigation suggests the victim was in a parking lot outside of a vehicle when a suspect began firing shots at him. However, details remain limited at this time.
The department says South Precinct officers were dispatched to the location on report of a person shot shortly before 9 p.m. Officers arrived on the scene and observed a male victim lying unresponsive in a parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as Perry Lee Mixon, 62, of Birmingham.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced Mixon dead at the scene.
