FAIRFIELD — An arrest has been made in connection to a fatal shooting that took place at a Fairfield convenience store on Thursday.
According to a report from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies took 24-year-old Travec Brandon Ard into custody a little more than six hours after a man was slain in a car that was parked at a gas pump.
Police say Ard was arrested somewhere near UAB Hospital. He is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer on the charge of capital murder. According to reports, Ard was released from jail less than two months ago on a separate capitol murder charge.
Thursday’s shooting took place at a convenience store located at the intersection of Milstead Road and Woodward Road in Fairfield. According to JCSO, the department was notified of a person shot at the location around 11:10 a.m.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a Dodge Charger that had rolled into the back of a Ford Explorer near the gas pumps. Inside the charger was a deceased male who had been shot. The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Desi Montell Carter.
Police say witnesses informed them shots were fired between two men inside the charger and one of them fled on foot following the exchange.
