BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham police officer has been reassigned while the department investigates a Facebook post that Sgt. Rod Mauldin said “is not reflective of the views of the Birmingham Police Department.” The officer has not been identified.
The post stated, “Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, the entire Democratic party and all of their supporters are the enemy of the United States. If you do not believe this to be true, you are complicit in their crimes against our nation and in it’s destruction.” A screenshot of the post was reported by CBS 42.
“The Birmingham police department was recently made aware of an inflammatory social media post made by an officer on his personal Facebook page,” Mauldin said in a statement released by BPD.
Mauldin said the department’s command staff took immediate action and initiated an internal investigation. The officer was reassigned pending the outcome.
“This opinionated post made by this officer is not reflective of the views of the Birmingham Police Department,” Mauldin said. “BPD takes these instances seriously and our goal is to assure open accountability of each officer that serves the City of Birmingham.”
The officer’s Facebook post went on to urge people to vote Democrats out of office in the 2022 midterm elections.
“Our nation is under siege by these socialist enemies and if we cannot soon vote them out, it will be time to fight,” the post stated. “If we are forced to fight, much blood will be spilled on both sides. I pray we can remove them peacefully before it is too late.”
