BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a man found dead in his car.
Officers first responded to the scene in the Monarch Ridge Apartment complex, around 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.
Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin said there were reports of shots fired in the 2900 block of Gallant Drive. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that a vehicle had crashed into multiple vehicles in the parking lot at 2499 Gallant Drive.
Inside the vehicle, they found Keith Hardy, 29, of Birmingham, unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded and pronounced Hardy dead on the scene. The BPD Crime Scene Unit also responded.
Detectives believe Hardy was shot by the passenger of another vehicle.
“The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was sitting inside his vehicle having a conversation with someone in a silver SUV,” Mauldin said. “The passenger in the SUV exited and fired shots into the victim’s vehicle. The victim attempted to drive away and struck multiple cars in the parking lot.”
Two persons of interest were taken into custody for questioning.
If anyone has information in the case, they are asked to call the BPD Homicide Unit at (205) 254-1764.
