TRUSSVILLE — There’s a state softball championship up for grabs this week in Oxford, and top-ranked Hewitt-Trussville is among the eight-team field vying for the Class 7A blue map.
The defending state champion Huskies (45-2-1) qualified for state play with a 2-0 showing last Friday in the East Central Regional from Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

As the regional champions, Hewitt-Trussville will challenge South Regional No. 2 qualifier Baker next Thursday in the first round of games. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. from Choccolocco Park in Oxford.
The Hornets hold a record of 19-21 after booking their state tournament invite with a 12-4 win over Bryant in the South Regional loser’s bracket on Friday.
Head coach Taylor Burt and her Huskies will carry a 14-game winning streak into Oxford this Thursday when the double-elimination tournament begins.
