CENTER POINT — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a pedestrian on Center Point Parkway, on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
Leroy Riles, Jr., 46, of Birmingham, was walking in the 10 block of 24th Avenue NW when he was struck by a vehicle, according to Coroner Bill Yates.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the driver of the vehicle left the scene. Riles was found nearby in the 2400 block of Center Point Parkway. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:08 p.m.
Sgt. Joni Money said detectives are gathering information. There are Flock Safety cameras in the area to help with the investigation.
“After speaking with witnesses and analyzing evidence, detectives were able to determine that the vehicle was a white two-door, Honda Accord,” Money said. “While continuing to evaluate the information they had collected, deputies were able to locate a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle, nearby at Valley Brook Apartments. The vehicle had heavy front-end damage and a severely damaged windshield. The vehicle has been collected as evidence.”
