BIRMINGHAM — A man, woman and child were shot at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night while in their vehicle traveling on the 8300 block of First Avenue North in Birmingham’s Eastlake area.
The initial call to police indicated five people may have been shot, but when officers arrived, they found the three victims, according to Carol Robinson. Two other children in the vehicle had not been shot. The man and woman sustained life-threatening injuries. The child, which police said was elementary age, had been shot twice. Those wounds were not considered life threatening.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said the victim’s vehicle was traveling on First Avenue North when the suspect vehicle pulled along side them and began firing into the vehicle.
Fitzgerald later reported that the adult female victim was in critical condition. Both adult victims were transported to UAB Hospital.
The shooting was the second time a child has been shot in Birmingham in the last four days, according to Robinson.
