TRUSSVILLE — A Paine Elementary School teacher will have her photo displayed on a billboard and will receive a $250 VISA gift card after being named the Alexander Shunnarah Teacher of the Month.
Christy Stewart was selected as the May Teacher of the Month, for her commitment to her students. Stewart has taught first grade for over 17 years.
Over 1,200 teachers were nominated for the second-annual Teacher of the Month initiative.
“We started this campaign as an opportunity for our law firm and the community to thank the hard-working and dedicated teachers for all they do and give,” states Alexander Shunnarah, President and CEO of Alexander Shunnarah Trial Attorneys. “This year we were proud to expand the campaign statewide and double the number of featured educators to celebrate more teachers across all of Alabama. Teachers deserve to be recognized for their diligence, enthusiasm and commitment and the impact they make every day in the classroom or virtually.”
During the 2020-2021 school year, two teachers were selected each month for the initiative. 16 teacher across Alabama were honored for their hard work and dedication:

- Katie Beth Wilkerson – East Lawrence Middle School (Trinity)
- Christy Stewart – Paine Elementary School(Trussville)
- Haley White – Baker High School (Mobile)
- Rodney Brown – Spain Park High School (Birmingham)
- Benjamin Kocian – Anniston High School (Anniston)
- Kelsey Penn – Mountain Gap Middle School (Huntsville)
- Deaundra Hill – Alabaster Intermediate School (Alabaster)
- Natasha Williams – Booker T. Washington High School (Birmingham)
- Alganese Gatson – Hemphill Elementary (Birmingham)
- Latanya Collins – Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary (Tuscaloosa)
- Kimberly Bobo Summerlin – Payne Elementary School (Selma)
- JaDyn Fordbelser – Arrington Elementary (Birmingham)
- William Mattison – Homewood Middle School (Birmingham)
- Demetrius Thomas – Troy Elementary School(Troy)
