BIRMINGHAM — A residential fire has claimed the life of a Birmingham man.
Authur Lee Smoot, 70, has been identified as the victim by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
According to Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, the Birmingham Fire Department on Thursday night responded to a report of a residential fire in the 3800 block of 1st Street West in Birmingham. After the fire was extinguished, the decedent was found unresponsive in a rear bedroom of the residence.
The cause and origin of the fire, which began at around 8:21 p.m., is being investigated by the Birmingham Fire Marshal’s Office. No additional injuries have been reported.
