BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office identified two men shot and killed in a weekend shooting at a Roebuck Plaza convenience store.
Joseph Demetrice Robinson, 25, and Rikki Dunri Christopher Bynum, 27, both of Birmingham, were both pronounced dead on the scene Saturday night, June 5. Another person was injured. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Birmingham police later took a person of interest into custody at a Pizza Hut on Parkway East.
“At approximately 9 p.m., an East Precinct officer was traveling in the 200 block of Roebuck Plaza Drive when he heard gunshots being fired in the parking lot of 232 Roebuck Plaza Drive (Circle K),” Birmingham police officer Truman Fitzgerald said. “Officers then responded to the parking lot where they observed three male victims, near a parked vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.”
Fitzgerald said a witness description of the shooter led to the person of interest being taken into custody.
“Based on the community member coming forward, patrol officers were able to take a person of interest into custody at 9170 Parkway East (Pizza Hut),” he said.
The person of interest will be questioned by Homicide Division detectives. Fitzgerald said the motive is unclear in the double homicide.
