BIRMINGHAM — Two of three people involved in a fiery crash on Monday, June 14, 2021, were killed.
Elizabeth Shae Witte, 23, of Birmingham, and Matthew David Merchant, 28, of Springville, were killed when the Volkswagen Passat they were in struck a utility pole and caught fire.
The crash happened around 7:18 a.m., at the intersection of John Rogers Drive and Derby Parkway.
Witte and Merchant were both pronounced dead on the scene. The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office released the identity of Witte on June 15. Authorities used dental records to identify Merchant and released his identity on June 17.
There is no word on the condition of the third occupant of the vehicle.
