BIRMINGHAM —The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office is working to find the family of a woman found dead on the front porch of a vacant house in Birmingham.
Melissa Lee Smith, 50, was found on May 21, 2021, in the 400 block of First Street South. The coroner’s office determined the cause of death was due to a heroin overdose.
Smith, who was homeless, may have a daughter living in Florida or a brother living in South Carolina, but all attempts to locate them or determine their names have been unsuccessful.
If you are family or if you have knowledge of family, you are asked to call the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office at 205-930-3603.
