MOODY — Moody City Council met on Monday, June 28 for a brief regular meeting where they accepted a new garbage management bid, followed by a work session in which they discussed potentially beginning a citywide cleanup and beautification effort.
During the regular meeting, the council approved several requests by Fire Chief Larry Horton before moving on to accepting the low bid from Waste Management on residential garbage pickup.
Pickup will occur once per week as it was with the previous company, Advanced Disposal. It was not known yet which day of the week collections will be made.
For limb pickup, residents will have to call in and get on a list 24 hours before collection instead of 48 hours with Advanced Disposal. Paying customers will receive two dump passes per year in April and October. The monthly fee is $16.12 per customer.
Afterward, the council held a work session in which they discussed several items, including city beautification.
This was brought up at a work session at the previous meeting where councilmember Linda Crowe mentioned that next year the World Games will be held in Birmingham and tourists will be staying in various towns and cities, especially in Moody.
Crowe said that she had a meeting with fellow member, Ellis Key, on potential projects, including planting flowers at Moody City Park. Another was to replace a tree at Moody City Hall that appears to be dying.
It was suggested by councilmember Lynn Taylor to encourage community groups and churches to get involved in pickup and cleanup efforts on the roads. It was also suggested that this be brought up with department heads to discuss kicking off similar projects in their areas.
“I just think that it would make things look better,” Crowe said. “And I’m constantly saying, ‘When you do a job, do a finished job.’”
More details will be discussed in future meetings.
In other business, the council:
- Approved Horton’s request to purchase medical supplies for $2,300,
- Approved Horton’s request to purchase LED lights for the station for $1,450, and
- Approved Horton’s request to purchase medical supplies from TacMed for $850.
Meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of every month at 6 p.m. at Moody City Hall on 670 Park Ave.
