From The Tribune staff reports
BIRMINGHAM — A new morning radio show is coming to Birmingham starting next week.
According to a release from Cumulus Media, the All-Star Morning Show will be geared toward football fans in Birmingham and will air on JOX 94.5-FM five days a week (Monday through Friday) from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
The show will be hosted by former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy and former Auburn offensive lineman Cole Cubelic. Both ex-players now cover college football for ESPN.
Also listed on the team are a pair of former Tribune employees. Pat Smith, a 25-year sports media broadcaster and original host of Tribune Sports Live, will be a contributor alongside Damian Mitchell, who served as the Tribune sports editor in 2018. Smith, a program director at JOX, can also be heard calling play-by-play for Hewitt-Trussville football each fall.
“After seven years on satellite, I’m so excited to be coming to work in my adopted hometown of Birmingham,” said McElroy. College football is my passion and being able to cover it from my own backyard will be incredibly rewarding. WJOX has long been the home for college football and I’m fired up to join their lineup of talented hosts.”
Cubelic also shared his excitement for the new beginning: “I have worked with Greg on multiple occasions across different platforms and am thrilled to share the airwaves with someone who has accomplished all that he has in this field. I truly believe with the JOX brand behind us that Greg and I can develop the most informed college football show on the planet!”
