UPDATE: According to the Birmingham Police Department, detectives are investigating the death of Bennie Harris III as a homicide after the 47-year-old was found dead inside his burning Birmingham home on Thursday.
Police say no arrests have been made. Anyone with knowledge of the incident is asked to contact the department’s homicide unit at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham man was found dead after a fire at his home.
Bennie Harris III, 47, was found by fire personnel at the house in the 3700 block of Todd Avenue Southwest.
Birmingham Fire & Rescue was called to the home late on Thursday, July 8, 2021. Harris was pronounced dead at 11:53 p.m.
Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates said foul play is suspected. The incident is being investigated by the Birmingham Police Department.
