MONTGOMERY – A pair of Hewitt-Trussville runners took part in the North-South cross country All-Star event on Wednesday in Montgomery.
The 5K race was held at the Gateway Cross Country Course in Montgomery as part of the 2021 All-Star Sports Week. The annual event features competition across 11 sports for rising high school seniors in Alabama.
A total of 10 Tribune-area athletes participated in this year’s action.
Maci Mills, of Hewitt-Trussville, took the track in girls’ cross country play. After helping the Huskies to a Class 7A indoor state championship and outdoor runner-up finish last season, Mills stopped the clock at 21:02.59 on Wednesday in Montgomery. He time was good enough for fourth place behind No. 3 Maddie Jackson (20:59.42), No. 2 Myka Rogers (20:50.07) and No. 1 Crawford West (19:18.26).
In the boys’ race, Hewitt runner Mitchell Phillips clocked a time of 16:44.23, which placed him fifth behind No. 4 Davis Amare (16:40.84), No. 3 Jack Lowe (16:27.37), No. 2 Joseph Perry (15:56.89) and No. 1 Woodrow Dean (15:52.76).
Phillips and the Hewitt boys also notched a state indoor title and outdoor runner-up finish last season.
