BIRMINGHAM — Children’s of Alabama is urging parents to follow recommendations after seeing a significant increase in the number of COVID patients.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 12, the hospital had 22 patients with COVID and five of those were on ventilators. Children’s said the increase is likely due to the spread of the Delta variant.
“The threat to Alabamians is serious,” Children’s of Alabama posted on Facebook.
The hospital also said the Delta variant is impacting younger people more than the original virus.
“For comparison, 13 was our highest COVID census in January 2021 at the height of the last surge,” the post stated.
Children’s of Alabama recommends following CDC recommendations and taking three steps to slow the spread of the virus:
- Vaccination for everyone 12 and up
- Masking, especially when indoors
- Social distancing
Other precautions include washing your hands, using hand sanitizer and staying home if you are sick.
