WASHINGTON — Congressman Gary Palmer (R-AL) said Monday that President Joe Biden has created an international security crisis after the Taliban took over the Afghanistan government.
Following an address by the president, Palmer said the crisis was created by “continued weak leadership.”
“No amount of spin or finger-pointing from the White House or State Department can change the outcome of what Americans, and the world, are seeing in Afghanistan,” Palmer said in a statement. “We already have a major national security crisis raging at our southern border due to the President’s willful neglect and his decision to allow Afghanistan to fall will only make protecting the homeland more difficult,” said Chairman Palmer.
Palmer continued, “President Biden needs to realize this disaster is his creation and his alone. Not only has he displayed weakness to our global enemies, but he has also condemned yet another generation of Afghanis to brutal subjugation by radical jihadists. My prayers are with the thousands of U.S. troops, civilian personnel, and faithful allies still awaiting evacuation.”
Bident returned from a weekend at Camp David Monday to address the nation. Biden defended his decision to continue a plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
“The choice I had to make as your president was either to follow through on the agreement to drawdown our forces,” Biden said. “Or escalating the conflict and sending thousands more American troops back into combat and lurching into the third decade of conflict.”
Biden said he stands by his decision and said evacuations were made swiftly from the region because of planning of a possible Taliban takeover.
