BESSEMER — A teenage bystander was shot and killed after an argument inside a convenience store here Tuesday, August 17, 2021. His name has now been released by Jefferson County Coroner William Yates.
A third man approached and shot one of the men who was fighting on the floor, wounding one of the people involved in the physical altercation, wounding one of them. The original shooter and the man who was not wounded then fled the scene.
The injured man pulled his own gun and began shooting. A bullet struck King, and the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:13 p.m.
The wounded man was transported privately to UAB West. He was later transferred to UAB Hospital in Birmingham with what officials termed a life-threatening injury.
