As we approach the twentieth anniversary of 9/11, most folks that can, have a recollection of where they were that morning when they heard the fateful news.
I was in Hamilton, Alabama trying a case in the Marion County Courthouse. Presiding over the trial was Circuit Court Judge Bobby Ray Aderholt, the father of Congressman Robert Aderholt.
The shock of the attacks that morning shook everyone around the country and despite being so far away from Alabama, still raised the fears of everyone in the Courtroom.
As the attorneys and jurors waited breathlessly for the words of the judge and how he wanted to proceed, he stepped up to the bench to decree that the trial would proceed, as to stop would be what the terrorist would want – to do everything they could to disrupt and destroy our government institutions.
We completed our trial, but we all gained a new appreciation that the resolve and will of the United States can never be deterred by terrorism.
God bless all of those Americans who lost their lives on September 11th and those soldiers and sailors who have defended our Nation these past twenty years. The best way to honor them is to never forget and always keep these men, women and their families in our prayers.
