HOOVER — Hoover police said a report of a baby in a vehicle at Hoover’s Riverchase Galleria on on Wednesday led to a grandmother being detained.
According to police Captain Keith Czeskleba, a 911 call at 1:34 p.m. on Wednesday from a concerned citizen led authorities the the shopping center parking lot outside Macy’s where an infant was found alone in a vehicle.
Personnel from Hoover Fire and Rescue forced their way into the vehicle to check on the child’s condition. Hoover police located the grandmother of the child inside the mall with three other children.
The 8-month-old boy found in the vehicle was checked out by paramedics and was not transported to the hospital. All four children were turned over to the Jefferson County Department of Human Resources.
The grandmother was detained and transported to the Hoover police station. Her name has not been released pending formal charges.
