ST. CLAIR COUNTY — A mobile home caught fire on Okalona Road near Pell City and claimed the life of a woman around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 12.
According to the Wolf Creek Fire Department, Kathy Phillips, 60, died in the fire when firefighters and deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office could not reach her through a window due to intense flames.
Reports say that three firefighters suffered smoke inhalation but are expected to be OK.
Firefighters from Wolf Creek, Cook Springs Fire, and New London Fire responded with 10 vehicles and 17 total firefighters.
