MONTGOMERY – Center Point’s Jabril Muhammad came in second at the Gardendale Invitational Cross Counry meet with a time of 20:17, a little more than 30 seconds behind River Richard of Pell City, who finished at 19:41to win the individual title there on Sept. 25.
Chelsea High School distance runner Miles Brush added another championship to his resume last week. The senior and reigning Class 6A individual state cross country champ won last week’s Shelby County Championship boys’ race in 15:27.48, the second straight week he’s run under 15:30 in competition.
Brush delivered the fastest time from last week, which lands him in this week’s AHSAA Cross Country Spotlight along with Baker High School sophomore Lindsey Baxter.
Baxter won the Daphne Invitational at Blakely State Park clocking 19:11.26 for her third win of the season. She finished nearly a minute ahead of Audrey Kate Smith, a freshman from St. Paul’s Episcopal, who ran 20:04.90. Baxter also won the Gulf Coast Stampede on Sept. 11 and took first in the Mobile Champions Challenge Invitational division on Sept. 4.
Brush’s individual title helped Chelsea capture the team title, too, as teammate and fellow senior Elijah Williams finished third in 16:35.55, and Thomas Ludwig took sixth place crossing the finish line in 16:47.96.

GIRLS
CADY McPHAIL, CHELSEA: Ran 19:11.47 to win the girls’ title at Shelby County Championship, finishing more than 45 seconds ahead of Indian Springs junior Elise Picard, who fan 19:57.83.
AVA McINTOSH, HUNTSVILLE: Finished 15th with a time of 19:11.10 in the championship division at the Wingfoot Classic in Cartersville (GA). She was the highest finisher from Alabama at a meet filled with Georgia schools.
CATHERINE AARON, MONTGOMERY CATHOLIC: Clocked 19:36.32 to win the Trinity Trailblazer Invitational at Montgomery. Faith Academy’s Katilyn Powell was second in 20:09.91.
MADELYN PATTERSON, PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN: Won the Providence Invite at Dothan with a 19:59.69 time to edge teammate Millicent Talmadge, who finished second in 20:02.24.
TRINITY JENNINGS, STRAUGHN: The sophomore ran 22:08.51 to win Covington County Meet II by almost two minutes over Opp sophomore Mackenzie Phillips, who was second with a 24:04.22 time.
MADDY CONN, WHITE PLAINS: Won the 3A-4A race at the Kudzu Hills Invitational in Bremen with a time of 19:30.98. She was almost a minute ahead of teammate Anna Strickland (20:24.74), who took second place.
BRECKIN GOULD, OPELIKA: The senior broke the 20-minute barrier and won the Opelika Invitational in 19:57.31, followed by Central-Phenix City junior Abigail Garner, who came in at 20:12.15.
NEIDYN LOPEZ, HATTON: The senior ran a personal-best 20:19.71 to win the Warriors’ Invitational in Florence. Muscle Shoals’ Mary Anna Trimble was second in 20:38.10.
ROSE BETTS, BREWER: The eighth-grader won the 5A-7A race in 20:24.72 at the Kudzu Hills Invitational in Bremen, and Ardmore freshman Addison Tiemann was second at 20:26.54.
BLAKELY BAGGETT, HOLLY POND: The eighth-grader ran 22:10.13 to win the 1A-2A division at the Kudzu Hills Invitational at Bremen, nearly 10 seconds ahead of teammate and runner-up Caroline Lamoureux (22:19.15).
McKENZIE McANNALLY, GARDENDALE: Won the Gardendale Invitational in 24:41, followed by Pell City’s Caroline Pinson with a 25:09 time.
BOYS
WOODROW DEAN, TALLASSEE: The reigning AHSAA Class 5A state meet cross country champion won the Trinity Trailblazer in Montgomery in 15:30.30, almost three seconds faster than his time at the 2020 state championships. He beat runner-up J.C. Peacock of Houston Academy by more than 90 seconds at the Trinity Trailblazer.
CHARLES PERRY, UMS-WRIGHT: Won the Daphne Invitational with a time of 15:48.81 seconds. Teammate Joseph Perry was second in 15:51.76.
JACKSON HARRIS, HUNTSVILLE: Ran 15:54.70 to finish seventh out of 141 runners in the championship division at the Wingfoot Classic in Cartersville (GA), and teammate Will Pinson was 12th in 16:17.20.
CONNER PATTERSON, PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN: Captured the individual title at the Providence Invite with a time of 16:19.46, beating teammate Cole Smith by nearly 45 seconds. Providence Christian took the top seven places.
ETHAN EDGEWORTH, COLD SPRINGS: Won the Kudzu Hills Invitational 1A-2A division at the meet held at Bremen, finishing in 16:37.49. Cold Springs took the top three spots.
ALEX KUNTZ, ELKMONT: The junior finished the 3A/4A Division race at the Kudzu Hills Invitational with a winning time of 16:41.26 to win his division title.
THOMAS PARNELL, AUBURN: The junior finished in 16:43.40 to win the Opelika Invitational. The Class 7A Tigers swept the top four spots.
CARTER RICHARDSON, ARDMORE: Ran 16:51.17 to win the 5A-7A division at the Kudzu Hills Invitational, followed by Buckhorn senior Caleb Seaver, who had a 17:14.07 time.
HARPER BRANSCOME, MUSCLE SHOALS: The sophomore ran 17:12.64 to win the Warriors Invitational in Florence, followed by Hatton sophomore Carson Masterson, who clocked 17:39.84.
ALEX GARRISON, NEW BROCKTON: The senior ran 18:55.37 to win the Covington County Meet II, followed by teammate Grason Wallace, who crossed with a time of 19:56.77.
