From The Tribune staff reports
CLAY — Poll members have seen enough. A 46-14 pasting of then-No. 7 and previously unbeaten Jackson-Olin on Friday night catapulted Clay-Chalkville (6-0) into the No. 1 spot in 6A in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association football poll.
Pinson Valley (5-2), also a winner this week against Mortimer Jordan, rose a spot to No. 7 in the 6A rankings. Hewitt-Trussville (5-2) dropped to No. 9 in the 7A rankings.
Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley will meet on October 15, 2021 in Pinson. The Cougars have been paced by Khalib Johnson at quarterback and Ed Osley in the running game. Johnson passed for nearly 300 yards in Clay-Chalkville’s dismantling of the Mustangs last week. For Pinson Valley, the past two weeks have consisted of finding new ways to win, as quarterback Zach Pyron and the Indians’ two best runners, Mike Sharpe and Jaylen Taylor have both been out with injuries.
This week, Clay-Chalkville plays Mortimer Jordan while Pinson Valley has Friday night off.
