HUNTSVILLE — Three teams from The Tribune’s coverage area made it into the regional volleyball tournament here, and all three dropped their first-round matches to end their respective seasons.
First up, Springville, the 6A Area 13 champion, lost to Homewood, the Area 9 runner-up in straight sets in the 9 a.m. match on Wednesday. The Patriots upset the Tigers and moved on to face Hartselle.
Clay-Chalkville, the 6A Area 12 winner, also lost in an upset to Area 15 runner-up Fort Payne in straight sets in the 10:15 a.m. match on Wednesday. Fort Payne moved into the second round to play Athens.
Leeds, the 5A Area 10 winner, lost to Guntersville, the Area 14 runner-up, in straight sets during their first-round matchup as well. Guntersville plays Ramsay in the second round.
