Morris William “Butch” Harris, 58, of Birmingham, passed away on September 24, 2021.
Butch was a loving husband, father, and grandfather that enjoyed spending time with his family. He aimed to make people smile, always coming up with jokes and telling animated stories to lift the mood in any room he entered. Butch’s light-hearted personality will be missed by all that encounter him.
A graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Butch was a lifelong UAB fan who enjoyed cheering on the Blazers with his family and fellow fans.
With a passion for healing others, Butch worked in the medical field for 30 years. As a beloved member of the Respiratory Therapy department at UAB, he worked with an amazing team of professionals during the most challenging times in healthcare.
He is preceded in death by his father, Morris Harris, Sr.; mother, Glenda Harris Johnstone; stepfather, William Johnstone, Jr.; grandson, Aydin Harris; and nephew, Matthew Wehby.
He is survived by his loving wife, Josie Harris; children, Melanie (Jacobe), Will (Brianna), Jillian (Brett), and Drew Harris; mother of his three oldest children, Laura Harris; grandson, Ridge Harris; sisters, Denise Wehby (Sidney), and Deborah Sheffield; nieces and nephews, David Wehby (Jennifer), Katherine Collier (Jonathan), Brad Sheffield (Bethany), and Jennifer Chittum (Kirk).
The memorial service was held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, October 4, 2021, at 6 p.m. The family requests contributions towards his youngest son’s Drew’s (5) college fund in lieu of flowers. Any contributions are much appreciated.
