BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham Police Department arrested a 27-year-old Birmingham man in connection to his father’s killing.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, Charles Stewart Jr., 27, of Birmingham, was arrested at the 1600 block of 51st Street Ensley in Birmingham’s Central Park neighborhood. Just after 7:00 p.m., officers from the West Precinct responded to the location on a call of a person shot.
Upon arrival, officers located Charles Sylvester Stewart, 60, lying in a front room of the house suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced Charles Sylvester Stewart dead.
The suspect is the son of the victim murdered in this incident. The preliminary investigation indicates a physical altercation escalated, resulting in the son shooting his father. Detectives obtained a warrant for Reckless Murder ($15,000 bond) with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for the defendant’s arrest. The defendant will be transported from the Birmingham City Jail to the Jefferson County Jail.
