OZARK — The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is looking into a police-involved shooting that occurred following a car chase here on Sunday morning, November 7, 2021.
The suspect, whose name has not been released yet, was shot after he fled from an Ozark patrol officer attempting a traffic stop, Dale County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Mason Bynum told reporters. The officer attempted to pull the suspect over near East Roy Parker Road around 11:15 a.m., but a chase ensued.
Dale County deputies attempted a PIT maneuver, which can force a vehicle into an abbreviated spin or disable it, but the suspect regained control of his vehicle.
After a second PIT maneuver, the suspect’s car came to a stop. The suspect, an adult male, was wounded in what authorities have characterized as an “exchange” of gunfire. A second person in the vehicle, identified as a female passenger, tried to flee and sustained minor injuries.
