BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation involving the death of a 3-month-old child; the incident occurred on Saturday, November 6, at approximately 9:56 a.m.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported Jenkins to Children’s Hospital of Alabama, where he was pronounced deceased. On Sunday, November 7, 2021, the Jefferson County Coroner determined the cause of death was a homicide.
The mother of the victim, Jasmine Hutcherson, 24, of Birmingham, has been identified as the suspect. Detectives presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for review, and after an assessment of the information provided, detectives obtained a warrant for capital murder. Hutcherson will remain in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
This is Birmingham’s 91 murder investigation of 2021 with 12 justifiable death investigations.
