BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified a woman found dead in her apartment over the weekend.
“The decedent sustained injuries during a reported assault,” Yates stated. ” The case is being investigated as a homicide therefore, all questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the death should be made to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.”
Smith’s body was discovered when deputies performed a welfare check at her apartment.
“Shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 14, 2021, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the apartments on Town and Country Circle in Eastern Jefferson County to investigate a 31-year-old female located deceased in her apartment,” BPD Sergeant Joni Money said. “Neighbors had reported that they had not seen her in several days and went to check on her. They could see her lying on the floor inside of her apartment and called for assistance.”
Money said the coroner will determine the manner and cause of the victim’s death. Detectives have processed the scene and are currently developing evidence. No suspects are in custody at this time.
