PINSON — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the man shot overnight at a Pinson business.
John Eric Cole, 29, of Birmingham was killed on what was reportedly his first day of work at Samuel Associated Tube Group.
A co-worker, Dexter Rashad Johnson, 34, is accused of shooting the victim on early Wednesday morning.
“Shortly after midnight on November 17, 2021, Jefferson County deputies were dispatched to a business in the 1400 block of Red Hollow Road in Pinson on reports of a person shot,” Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Joni Money stated in a Wednesday morning press release. “Upon arrival deputies found the body of a male employee at the business who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
“According to witnesses, both the offender and the victim were employees of the business. This was the victim’s first day on the job. The circumstances surrounding the reason for the shooting are still under investigation.
“The suspect … turned himself into deputies at the scene. He was transported to the Jefferson County Jail and is being charged with murder. There is currently no bond set on the charge.”
