BIRMINGHAM — Police are investigating after a 6-year-old boy and two others were shot while driving near Avondale on Thursday, according to Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin.
“Officers responded and observed a disabled vehicle in the roadway riddled with bullets and damage from a collision,” Mauldin said. “Inside the vehicle was three people, two adult males and a 6-year-old boy, wounded by gunfire.”
Maulding said the child was transported to Children’s Hospital of Alabama. The child’s injuries were initially reported as life-threatening but has been updated to stable. The adults sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Another female occupant was inside the car at the time of the shooting. She was not injured during the incident.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim’s vehicle was followed, and the suspect opened fire from a white sedan,” Mauldin said. “The vehicle struck a utility pole before coming to a rest in the roadway. Detectives have not established a clear motive in this investigation; however, it appears the victims were targeted.”
No arrest has been made in the incident.
