CENTER POINT — The city council here moved consideration of a quote to refurbish the roof of a concession stand to its next meeting due to a lack of competitive bids.
The roof of the courthouse concession stand needs to be repaired, but Council Member Glenn Williams asked the council to hold off on choosing a quote because there is currently only one bid.
“I would like to wait until next week if we could possibly put it off till the next meeting and I can go get some more estimates,” Williams said. “The estimate that we have, they want to put on a shingle roof, and we know a shingle roof doesn’t last as long as a metal roof … that’s why I want to try get a metal roof in that same category, price range.”
The lowest bid the council currently has is for $8,000.
The council voted to move the roof repair quotes to the second meeting in December.
In other news from the Tuesday, November 18 2021 council meeting:
Jodi Harris, president of the Board of Trustees for the Center Point Fire District, thanked the council for their support and help to repair the fire station’s kitchen.
“It’s remarkable to me the relationship we have with the city and how much you have helped the fire district with our capital projects,” Harris said. The engine over there is a prime example. That engine on pace this year to run almost 5,000 calls, they have already run 3,800 calls out station one in over 10 months. What you are doing is helping your citizens tremendously by helping us provide a better service.”
