BIRMINGHAM — A 17-year-old shooting victim was one of six homicide victims during Birmingham’s bloody weekend.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, David Desmond of Birmingham sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported assault on a public roadway at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, December 5.

Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald said West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Fulton Avenue Southwest on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed a male victim lying unresponsive in the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was shot in the roadway, and a suspect was seen fleeing the area into a nearby residence,” Fitzgerald said. “Officers surrounded a residence in the 400 block of Fulton Street Southwest where they were able to take two persons of interest into custody free of any incident.”
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the male deceased.
Truman said both individuals will be questioned by detectives from the Birmingham Police Department’s (BPD) Homicide Division.
