TRUSSVILLE — When Dave Blount and Scott Hughes founded Blount Hughes, LLC in 2016, the goal was to provide a full-service law firm for families and business owners alike.
Per Scott Hughes, “There are many large and mid-size law firms to choose from, but we wanted to provide top-notch legal services to individuals, families, small businesses, and our community at affordable rates, while making the experience as personal as possible.” Since 2016, Blount Hughes, LLC has grown into a four-attorney firm with the addition of Leslee Hughes in 2017 and Sharon Davis in 2020. Scott continues, “We have over 70 years of combined experience, and with four attorneys we feel we can readily meet many legal needs including estate planning and probate, all manners of family law including divorce, divorce modifications, custody, child support, and adoptions. We also handle a good bit of criminal law and personal injury as well.”
Blount Hughes, LLC does all of the above while charging reasonable rates for their services, and they offer payment plans as well. While located in Trussville, Blount Hughes, LLC has successfully handled a variety of legal matters for clients all over the State of Alabama. Hughes also mentioned that they are planning to bring on another attorney in 2022.
While Scott manages many cases involving divorce, divorce modifications, child support and custody cases, he was very excited to discuss yet another area the firm plans on expanding their practice to in 2022. “We are going to implement what we’re calling a marriage restoration practice. In other words, if there is a possibility that a couple can work on staying married, then we want to be able to facilitate that and provide a resource, from a legal standpoint, of keeping them together. Obviously, we are not talking about situations where abuse or very serious or dangerous things have occurred, but situations where both parties to the marriage want to try strategies and actual legal agreements to keep the marriage in place.” Hughes feels like offering legal services in this area will help strengthen families, which in turn, strengthens our community.
Aside from being licensed to practice law since 1997, Hughes also served as an Officer in the U.S. Army (Active and Reserve Components) for over 27 years. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2014. As such, he is very involved in the Veteran Community and is always willing to go the extra mile for Veterans, Law Enforcement and our Educators.
“Our Attorneys have tremendous trial and litigation experience, and we aren’t afraid of the Courtroom,” Hughes explained.
Both Leslee Hughes and he are former Assistant District Attorneys in Alabama, and both Dave Blount and Sharon Davis have handled cases in Courts all over Alabama. Hughes went on to explain that virtually every area of law in which their Attorneys practice can result in litigation dependent upon the circumstances.
“You never know, so we feel like we are better able to fully represent our clients both in and out of the Courtroom.”
Hughes also went on to discuss the growing trend of using mediation to resolve many legal disputes. As Hughes explained, mediation is a process whereby the legal dispute is brought before a certified mediator who tries to help the parties resolve their dispute without having to go to trial.
“It is a good alternative when it works. Often a dispute can be resolved more quickly, more informally, and for less expense than going to trial. Usually, if the mediation process doesn’t succeed, then the parties may still get their day in Court if need be.” Dave Blount, Leslee Hughes, and Scott Hughes are actually certified in Alabama to conduct many types of mediation, while Sharon Davis is a certified FINRA Arbitrator.
As Blount Hughes, LLC continues to grow, Hughes notes that it would not be possible to do so without clients who have retained them for more than one issue and who have offered great word-of-mouth referrals about their services.
“We really want to be a resource for anyone who needs us. We’ve laughed with our clients, cried with our clients, been part of important life-changing events with our clients, and we do our best to give back to the community as much as we can.”
Hughes also explained that the Attorneys at Blount Hughes, LLC are available to speak on the topics of estate planning, divorce and family law, small business law, and other areas of law. He also feels that the diverse background of the Attorneys at Blount Hughes, LLC is a tremendous benefit. “Beyond being Attorneys, we have been business owners, been in the corporate world, been in the military, been in the banking and trust world, and we are all spouses and parents as well.”
